With over 2500 radio contacts, and 103 attendees, Bella Vista Radio Club was awarded first place in the nation in the competitive “Class A” division of the national American Radio Relay League Field Day event. The club participated in the class 3A Commercial division, meaning that the club used three transmitters with commercial power during the event.
The club’s first place finish placed them ahead of clubs from larger metropolitan areas such as Mobile, Alabama and Orlando, Florida. This is the second time the club finished in first place in the past three Field Day events.
“This remarkable achievement was the result of a great number of Bella Vista Radio Club member volunteers who devoted hours of time preparing for day and night operations over the Field Day weekend. We are proud to demonstrate the ability of amateur radio to assist in communications during national disasters as well as community events” stated Jan Hagan, WB5JAN, President of the Bella Vista Radio Club.
“From the antenna installations on a hot Friday afternoon to the site breakdown and cleanup at the conclusion – All-Hands-on-Deck was the mantra. Our goals included radio activity for all, a safe and welcoming environment, providing fun learning activities, exposure to the public, and opportunities for mealtime fellowship. I want to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone involved in this year’s Field Day.” stated Bella Vista Radio Club Field Day Coordinator Tom Northfell, W5XNA.
With 285 active members, Bella Vista Radio Club is the largest amateur radio club in the state of Arkansas. The club’s membership includes members from eight different states.
